Jacobo and Maria Angeles are known for thir artistic carvings, frequently from a single piece of wood, and highly detailed painting using Zapotec designs and motifs.
This aramdillo is painted traditional Zapotec themes called Diamonte Zapoteca. The body is carved out of a single piece of wood. The tail and ears are removable (this is done to protect it from damage in shipping).
All the paints are custom made by the Angeles family from natural materials and minerals. This piece is painted in light gray, dark gray and deep red. No other Oaxacan wood carvers are doing this natural process.
The piece is signed, numbered (#13), and dated 2008.
